History

First Nieberg Chapel in Brooklyn

The history of the founding and development of the first Jewish undertaking (establishment) in NYC, eminently by the direct descendants of the founder under the title, Harry Nieberg & Sons.

As far back as the Civil War, the Nieberg family has been taking care of families in their time of need, established on Elizabeth St. in the lower east side (water actually flowed through Canal St. at this time). The Niebergs pioneered the use of motorized hearses in NYC. We have been assisting families and continue to do so with the utmost compassion and sensitivity needed most at this time.

While continuing to strive to be innovators, our staff still upholds and respects the sacred traditions of each family.
